Welcome Reception/Dinner Hosting: Entrepreneurship and Youth Employment in Togo

Informal member gathering planned alongside confirmed in-person International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Togo is a West African nation located between Ghana and Benin. The official language is French.  In 2019, the U.S. Embassy and the Government of Togo entered into a partnership to support young social entrepreneurs in Togo. Togo is home to several examples of social businesses that are world leaders, such as the American cosmetics company Alaffia, which won the State Department’s Award for Corporate Excellence in 2018. Alaffia pays fair wages to thousands of employees in Togo and supports investments in health and education, while at the same time employing over a hundred Americans at its plant in Washington State.
